Speakers' Club is a monthly assignment where students prepare a speech about a selected topic.  New topics are chosen at the beginning of the month and a due date is set for the end of the month.  Students have a checklist of items that must be addressed in their speech to achieve full marks.  This can be a very nerve-wracking assignment at first, but by the end of the school year students are confident and excited for each Speaker's Club day.  Please find the Speakers' Club Handbook by clicking the button to the left.

Students are expected to prepare for and write weekly spelling tests based on the levelled spelling program entitled "Words Their Way".  Students are assessed at the beginning of the year to determine which of four levelled groups best suits their spelling abilities.  Each Monday, students write their spelling words in their agenda and are expected to practice their words to prepare for the test on Friday.  Weekly lists work on a specific skill, and there are classroom sorts and activities to practice this skill.  Students are reassessed in February to determine if they should be placed in a different group.  Weekly online spelling practice through Spelling City can be found for each group by clicking the button to the left.

Xtra Math is a free online resource that allows students to practice basic math facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  Students work for just a few minutes, building on their skills through drills and easy games.  Students will be signed up at school and will come home with a username and password to connect to their account at school.  Simply click to button to the left to get started, and click on "Enroll" on the main page once you receive this information from school.

This is a great website to build on typing abilities, an increasingly important skill as technology is making its way into more and more facets of our daily lives.  Students have been set up with logins.  Information on how to access the site will be sent home.
